Is AMD Ryzen 7 a good processor?

AMD has set the bar high with AMD Ryzen 7. Priced at $399 to $499, AMD’s new processor is packing eight cores and 16 threads into a single chip. AMD claims it’s AMD Ryzen 7 processors are 39 percent faster than Intel Core i7 6900K.

AMD Ryzen 7 equals desktop power at half the price of comparable products from Intel.  AMD’s products have traditionally been cheaper – but not as powerful – as those from Intel, but AMD is now claiming that it’s AMD Ryzen 7 is both more powerful and nearly as fast as an Intel Core i7 6900K processor but far cheaper with a starting price of just $399 for AMD’s top model, compared with around $1,050 for the cheapest Intel equivalent. Intel dominates the market with its range of processors and AMD has struggled to keep up despite launching one or two impressive models in recent years. AMD Ryzen 7 will be competing against Intel’s latest chip: the Kaby Lake-based quad-core to 10-core Skylake X and Kaby Lake X. However, early benchmarks suggest AMD could well have pulled off what seemed impossible – bringing high-end performance to mid-range pricing.

AMD is also creating a new socket for AMD Ryzen, called AM4, which has been designed to accommodate next-generation AMD motherboards that support DDR4 memory.
